THE BIGGEST CURTAIN
HOW SHOULD BE A GOOD MUSLIM TO RECEIVE ALLAH-U TAALA ‘S APPROVAL?
To be a good Muslim, it is necessary to make harmless what things to the obstacle to reach Allah-u Taala’s acquiescence.
Hadrat Imam-I Rabbânî says (One cannot love more than one thing. Unless he leaves the love of that thing he loves, he cannot love other things. That is one thing that is man’s ego. (Nafs) He loves things such as property, position, son, and praise, but he loves them for his own ego. (Nafs) If he doesn’t love his own nafs, he doesn’t love any of them.
The curtain between the servant and his Lord (Allah-u Taala) is the nafs (ego) of the servant. Unless the servant leaves his own nafs he cannot love his own Lord. (Allah-u Taala.) Hadrat İmam-ı Muhammed Masum-i Fârûkî states: (The biggest obstacle to the consent of Allah is one’s own ego (nafs). It is to attend the conversation of great scholars is only one thing to get rid of ego’s harmless. If this conversation is not be vouchsafed but the scholars are loved so much, the fayds come from him flow into the heart of the lover and bring him again with the amount of love) own scholars. If this conversation is not possible but the scholars are loved so much, the flow comes from his heart into the heart of the lover and brings the maturity and again with the amount of love his own scholars. Imam-i Maverdi, who states the hadith sheriff (The most powerful enemy of the one is his own nafs), explains that the jihad of nafs is possible to make riyâda and mujâhada.
Riyâda means that not doing what the nafs likes. What the nafs wants is harmful to his own oneself. Nafs always wants harams. Translation of the verse: “Those who are afraid of Allah Almighty and who take their nafs away from bad desires are to reach in Paradise.” [Naziat 40, 41]
Mujâhada is to do what the nafs dislikes. Our nafs does not want to pray. Avoiding sins is more difficult instead of praying for the nafs. For that reason avoiding sins is the best deed. It is always necessary to humiliate the nafs. Because one hadith-i sheriff commands (When ones who humiliates his nafs, he reverences his religious, when he reverences his nafs he humiliates his religious.) [Abu Nuaİm]
One who loves his nafs, so himself, makes his nafs friends, approves his own opinion, gets above himself, and does not to ask what doesn’t know, will be arrogant and humiliate his religion. If so, we have to pay much attention to riyâda and mujâhada in order not to comply with nafs.
